Get Real Leadership – An Interview With Harry Campbell

August 7th, 2012 by Bob Burg

Because I typically arrive the night before an event, speak in the morning and then immediately head right back to the airport, I very rarely have an opportunity to meet people for lunch. So, when breaking the usual routine and having a chance to sit down with Harry Campbell, it was a very special treat.

Harry is truly a leader; in business and in life. What’s fascinating to me is how he went from learning that the all-too-familiar “false dilemma” of caring about others OR obtaining huge success was exactly that…false.

And, he learned that lesson from a humble guy out of Bentonville, Arkansas who was as kind, authentic and successful as could be.

In today’s chat, Harry shares some of the wisdom from his new book, Get Real Leadership: A Practical Approach That Delivers Relationships, respect and Results.

Enjoy!

If you stayed around till the end, you heard that Harry gives 100 percent of his book royalties and speaking fees to brain cancer charity. May he and Mrs. Campbell enjoy many more happy years together!

I had a pleasure of working for Harry and living next door to him as a neighbor and he exceeded on both counts. Him and his family are truly blessed.

Bob, Thanks for a great interview with my good friend Harry Campbell. I had the opportunity to work with Harry in NW Arkansas and fondly recall the inspiration he provided to our new and sometimes struggling team. He helped put us on the road to success and we eventually became one of the most heralded business teams in Procter’s history! Thanks Harry!! I still love it here.

I have had some one on one time with Harry and his “real” leadership transcends the book and his videos and speaking engagements. He is the living breathing epitome of a Servant Leadership. I hope Harry’s wisdom propels him into the upper echelon of speakers where he deserves to be. His varied successful ventures have occurred because he understands no business goes anywhere without everyone being focused on the competition. The energy focused on internal nonsense is wasted and Harry’s “real” leadership redirects the focus to beat the competition’s rear end!
