Heroism And The Four Bears

My Facebook friend, Amanda Maynard posted a heart-warming video of a New Mexico husband and wife rescuing three bear cubs out of a trash bin. A grateful Mama Bear breathed a great sigh of relief and went off without so much as a thank you.

Of course, receiving a thank you wasn’t the point. Shirley and Tom Schenk did what they did because they felt it was the right thing to do.

I believe this was a great example of how anyone can be a “hero” simply by acting in accordance with their values. The act itself doesn’t have to be huge, it just has to serve.

As The Reverend, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. famously said, “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.”

Quick note: Bill Guyther’s dog, Bruno has been stolen from their South Carolina home. Bill is desperately seeking help in finding him and has set up a Facebook Page for that purpose. Please check it out just in case.

Hi Bob, Great video and story, thanks for sharing. But honestly, at around the 30 second mark of the video when the mama bear kept looking in the direction of the rescuers and kind of nodding, I do think that was a kind of thank you. Thanks again for sharing! <3
