In the recent article entitled, “All Things Being Equal…” we looked at what I believe is the foundational premise of Business Networking, and that is “All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like and trust.” At its conclusion, however, I asked if “KL&T” is everything, or is there ever a time it is not enough?
In the following article, I provided my thoughts as to when it is not.
Then, some readers’ responses came in that did a much better job of explaining it than I did. As I read many of them, I thought to myself that I needed to include them in a follow-up article. But, there were too many good ones.
So, while it might appear that I’m taking the “lazy man’s way out” of actually having to write his own blog post (and, knowing me, I probably am), I’m simply going to suggest you read yesterday’s comments. They are outstanding.
And, we’re not through with this topic yet. One comment from my great friend, Networking Authority Beth Bridges from California after the first article and another from my “Brother” Sean Woodruff after the second, have inspired related topics that we’ll look at over the next couple of posts.
Meanwhile, enjoy the comments…and please feel free to share your own.

Bob,
First, thank you so much for the “shout out!”
Second, I promised that I had more to say on this subject. I’ve been thinking about it so hard that my brain is smoking.
I have to partially disagree with you and me. 🙂
There are millions of business people for whom “know, like and trust” is not everything, it is the ONLY thing!
Want to guess who they are? If you don’t mind, here is a link to my blog post where I lay it all on the line: http://bethbridges.blogspot.com/2010/04/is-know-like-trust-enough-for-some-its.html
Thank you for asking this question.

Hi Beth, I read your blog post. Very nice and with many excellent points. I think that – in a sense, regarding any perceived disagreement – semantics might be coming into play just a little bit. I think it all goes back to the saying that “all things being equal (or even close enough to such) people will do business with and refer business to, those people they know like and trust. Your example regarding Networking Marketing companies and their products – I believe – makes that very point. And, and the same time, while someone might drive an hour out of their way to patronize their dentist for 20 years (as I did) they might not travel 3 hours by air and another hour by taxi or rental car to do the same thing (as I didn’t). There came that certain point where “all things” simply weren’t close enough to equal to continue to patronize that person who I knew, liked and trusted. Of course, if it was brain surgery, that would be different. So, I think we need to look at the various situations within their specific contexts. Of course, just my opinion. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.
